Just Thrilled to See Him
Dear Faith Family,
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say rejoice, (Philippians 4:4).
Remember Ryan’s Buffet (the restaurant)? One of my daughter’s favorites was “baby cabbages” (brussel sprouts). Ryan’s had all she could eat on their buffet. It was great, tailor made for this dad. See, when mom was out, this dad and kids would hit the town!
On one particular occasion, mom was out for an appointment and/or shopping. So, off to Ryan’s we did go. We were having a delightful time enjoying the buffet at Ryan’s. And then it happened!
It’s not what you think. Nobody’s glass got tipped over. Nobody got sick. And no brussel sprouts were launched via catapult across Ryan’s. At least I don’t remember that. But something did happen! What?!
I happened to look up and there was my bride coming into the dining room at Ryan’s! She had seen my vehicle and decided to join us for lunch. I’m not sure that words can adequately describe the joy that exploded in my heart when I saw her headed our way. She didn’t “do” anything. She didn’t bring any gifts. I was just thrilled to see her!
Sometimes I wonder if we aren’t looking for joy in all the wrong places. Circumstances and even “stuff” can produce a superficial happiness (not to be mistaken with joy). But joy seems to be tethered around the Lord, Himself. He is the source of joy.
General revelation (creation: you know – tomato plants, hummingbirds, turkeys, the moon, rain, YOU, etc.) and special revelation (the Word of God, the Bible) demonstrate His presence twenty-four / seven. Have you made time today to see your God? To know that He is here?
Question: “Are you just thrilled to see Him?” Natalie Grant put it like this:
“Help me want the Healer more than the healing.
Help me want the Savior more than the saving.
Help me want the Giver more than the giving.
Help me want you Jesus more than anything.”
Just thrilled to see Him,
